5 Tahoe Day Trips

If you're in Lake Tahoe, take a day trip to these fun places

1. Discovery Museum

Not too far from Lake Tahoe in downtown Reno is this exciting museum with lots of activities for the entire family. Many exhibits give an insight into art, geology, and notable historical facts. It's a fun and educational activity all in one. Other activities at Discovery Museum include cloud climbing for children and adults, and you can also enjoy an "Under the Stars" exhibit showcasing wildlife.

2. Sierra Hot Springs

Another exciting excursion is a visit to Sierraville, a small town with a resort where you can enjoy the Sierra hot springs. The hot springs are made up of several small natural pools and a large warm swimming pool. If you like, you can take a dip nude or with clothing if you prefer. The resort also has several spa treatments and hosts special dinners from time to time if you want a unique location for dining. Note that to access the hot springs, you need to pay a membership fee.

4. Virginia City

When you cross over the other side of the Truckee Meadows, you will come across this small town, Virginia City, that upholds much of the Olde West theme. It is a fascinating place to visit, and you will see real-life cowboys walking around or in their classic saloons. Do not get terrified if you see them armed, as it is legal and part of their lifestyle. The old town feels like walking in a movie, especially if you hear tales of the said resident ghosts. You can also shop for antiques and souvenirs here, enjoy delicious fudge and take many photos for memories.

5. Apple Hill

South of Lake Tahoe is this exciting area, Apple Hill, that makes an excellent day trip destination during fall and summer. At this time, you can interact with local vendors and get fresh produce, including fruit, nuts and wine. You can also get some of the best apple cider here. The area has several farms, and the young ones can also have a good time packing berries or chestnuts as you buy them. If you can, visit on a weekday to avoid big crowds and have an easy time moving around.
