Visit Reno: The Biggest Little City in the World

Here are some fun things to do in Reno, Nevada, only about an hour away from Tahoe.

1. Truckee River Walk

The Truckee River Walk is a paved trail that runs along the Truckee River near Reno. The 3.5-mile trail has beautiful views of the river, city, and bridges, and interesting plants and sculptures line the path. It’s a nice leisurely walk that offers a taste of nature close to the city.

2. The Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary

The Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary, about 30 minutes away from Reno, houses several wild animals. This organization rescues and rehabilitates wild animals. When you visit this 38 acre sanctuary, you’ll see bears, raccoons, foxes, tigers, owls, cheetahs, cougars, porcupines, and other species!

3. The Reno Riverwalk District

The Reno Riverwalk District, similar to the Truckee River Walk, is along the Truckee River. This area has shops, restaurants, bars, breweries, coffee shops, art galleries, museums, and more! It’s a lively hub for local activity and a great place for tourists to check out.

4. Nevada Museum of Art

The Nevada Museum of Art in downtown Reno is full of paintings, sculptures, photography, and mixed media exhibitions. 

 

Open Friday through Wednesday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm. General Admission is only $10, $8 for students & seniors, $1 for kids ages 6-12, and free for kids 5 & under. It’s free for anyone on the second Saturday of the month!

5. The Discovery - Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum

The Discovery Museum is an interactive museum full of displays about science, technology, art, and math. It’s a fun place for all ages: kids, families, adults, anyone who’s interested in learning through hands-on activities. Test yourself with brainteasers, puzzles, learn about human anatomy, the solar system, and Leonardo Da Vinci.

6. Casinos

Reno has casinos! Check out the Atlantis Casino, Peppermill Casino, the casino at Silver Legacy, or the casino at the Eldorado. Get a taste of what Vegas is like with the bright lights and maybe even try your hand at some gambling.
