Piping Rock Horses in Truckee, California, takes visitors on horseback rides through the mountains, rivers, and forests of Tahoe. In addition to scenic trail rides, they also offer lessons, camps, and a riding academy for kids.
Some of the options for trail rides are suitable for beginners, while others are meant for more experienced riders.
The Deep Trail Ride is recommended for beginners. This scenic one-hour ride offers great views and easily manageable terrain and costs $100 per person.
For intermediate riders, Prosser Plateau offers a little more challenging terrain. This hour-and-a-half ride costs $125 per person.
Prosser Creek Ride and the Advance Scenic Ride are recommended for experienced and comfortable riders. The Prosser Creek Ride takes place in and along the creek. It’s said to cover the most scenic terrain of all the rides offered. This two-hour adventure is $150 per person. The three-hour Advance Scenic Ride covers hills, valleys, railroad tracks, and creek crossings. This seasonal ride is $250 per person.
During the summer, the Prosser Swim Ride allows visitors to ride horses bareback while swimming in the Prosser Reservoir. This 3 hour ride also goes through a meadow. It costs $225 per rider.

It’s recommended that kids be at least seven years old to participate in trail rides. Helmets are provided and a guide will be present at all times.
